Fetlar Wind Secure Funding to Proceed with Community Renewable Energy Project

Fetlar Wind are delighted to announce that they have now secured enough funding to allow their small wind development to go ahead, after the share offer closed at midnight on Thursday 26th November.

The past 35 days have seen local businesses and individuals provide investments or donations towards the project in order for it to proceed. The two turbines will power the Fetlar Green Energy scheme, providing renewable heat and power to the local primary school and other connected buildings. Any surplus generated by Fetlar Wind will be donated to a local charity for use in supporting other community projects.

Robert Thomson – Project Manager commented. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported the project get it to this stage. The extremely short timescales imposed on us by changes to government legislation, both in relation to investment and the Feed in Tariff, have given us a real challenge, but one that we are now hopefully on course to meet.”

The turbines now have to be installed and commissioned before the 31st December to meet the Feed in Tariff deadline. Information on how the project is progressing can be found at www.fetlarwind.co.uk or www.facebook.com/fetlarwind.
